Speculative Design

2019

This is a speculative design project from the minor ‘Science-Friction’ at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Netherlands. I  partnered with Faren Hartman from the Design Academy for this project
After exploring trends and developments around the world, we created multiple scenarios and characters in the near future. Our main point of interest was Connectivity, we linked social anxiety and connectivity after which we extrapolated this trend to the near future.  2029 is a series of products that could exist in this speculated future of ours. The project features two speculative concepts; Mela-tags and, Anxiety cube.

THE ANXIETY CUBE
A device that monitors your daily level of connectivity. The cube remains red if the user has not met the daily expected level of connectivity, this is calculated as an average of real and digital connectivity. The average is also dependent on other users and trends in society. The cube is an example to show the extreme control objects could have on humans and their actions. Users are forced to communicate to meet their expectations to fit into the society

MELATAGS
The tattoo of the new age. With the growing need to stay connected, technology has evolved to showcase social connectivity levels through these biotech tattoos. The tattoos can be controlled and modified through mobile devices. These tattoos also share information about the individual. These are also seen as the new QR codes.
