Bamboo
Material Exploration
2021
For this project, I am investigating the gap between the user and the product while using interaction, time, and functionality as factors. Using bamboo as the primary material for its many unique properties, to create objects/products beyond its intended function. Bamboo is considered a ‘cheap’ material and, is often seen to exist only in a ‘natural’ ‘green’ setting. Bamboo could also exist in modern and contemporary spaces. Designing objects for everyday use that live long far from the intended use. Ultimately giving the user more reason to own the product longer and see multiple possibilities. Looking back to the previous era of products, human senses played an important role in the design of products. Studies have found that vision can convey the maximum information in the least time making it one of the most important of all senses. Other senses such as touch, taste, smell, and sound also played important roles in the design of products. Increased user-product interaction can improve the overall product experience, leading to longer product life. Taking inspiration from the previous era of products, with my project I aim to bring back the element of touch in product design.
