Blocks
Furniture Design
2019
Blocks stool was designed for the N6 campus as a part of the Basic Furniture course. Adaptiveness was my choice of concept for this project. The material and form for this design were chosen to adapt to the look and need of the campus. N6 is the primary workshop space for a lot of students, the entire campus has a rough and strong atmosphere, I wanted to incorporate these elements into my design. I hence chose concrete as my primary material. The wider base design for this stool allows users to use this as a table as well when flipped. The central space allows room for storage as well as leg space. Although the design and form were simple, the process and making were quite difficult to execute. The mold for this design was made in wood, sun board, and metal sheets. To ensure structural strength, metal reinforcements were done. Metal re-bar and mesh combination provides the stool with compressive and tensile strength.
