Platonic Ring

Art Installation

2018

Platonic Ring is a paper art installation. The installation is made up of 3000 paper platonic solids which are suspended using strings from a circular bamboo structure. The forms and geometry in platonic solids heavily inspired me in doing this project. My idea was to create a smooth flowing circular form with contrasting sharp and pointy objects. The Installation took 2 weeks to be set up. I was able to execute this Installation with the help and support of the Set Design Team of 15 students. The elements were cut, folded, and stuck by hand. Later on in the process of making, Laser cutting and creasing were used to speed up the process The possibilities of new forms and shapes were also explored. The final visual was a ring of platonic solids suspended in the air. This project inspired me to pursue more Installation art projects.

Thanks to

All the members of the Set-Design Team for working on this Installation.

Sudipto Dasgupta and Arnab Basu for their constant support and guidance.
